 Supported Sheltered Housing

Abbeyfield aims to provide a supportive environment to enable residents to continue to live independently without the worry of maintaining a house and cooking meals, and to enjoy the company of fellow residents, staff and volunteers.

Our Communal Facilities

The hub of the house is the dining room, which overlooks the terrace and garden, which have beautiful views over the Blackmore Vale. Lunch and supper are served here to all residents. It is also used to hold many of the social events and the weekly exercise class.

View over Blackmore ValeThe residents’ sitting room and kitchenette are on the ground floor with French doors opening onto a paved patio area. Scrabble and cards are played in here, where there is a TV and DVD player. A monthly communion is held here by the local vicar.

Other small seating areas are to be found in quiet corners of the house.

The gardens have a large lawned area, as well as paved areas with ample seating available to enjoy the views over the surrounding countryside.

Abbeyfield gardenThere are passenger, wheel-chair and stair lifts in the house, and a small private car park to the rear of the building. Modern laundry facilities (including irons and ironing boards) are available for residents’ use.

We have a small twin-bedded guest room at the top of the house which is available for relatives or friends at a very reasonable cost. Be aware that the stairs to this are quite steep.

 Our Residents’ Rooms

We have 15 single bed-sitting rooms for rental, all en-suite, with shower or bath. The rooms are provided with carpets and curtains, plus a small kitchen area. Residents provide their own furniture and bed linen and are free to personalise their rooms as they wish.

There is a terrestrial TV socket and individual telephone and broadband lines can be arranged at residents’ own expense. Broadband speeds are very good (BT Infinity).

Room 1 sitting areaThe rooms vary in layout, features and aspect, as some are in the original house and others in the newer extension. However, all have the same facilities.

All heating and lighting costs are included in the monthly rent, as well as fortnightly room cleaning and laundry of bed linen.

All rooms are provided with a Careline for residents to summon help in the event of an emergency.
